The Passing of the Pope

There is little I can say that others haven't already said. I will only note Pope John Paul's instrumental role in ending Soviet totalitarian rule over Eastern Europe. Stalin is said to have derisively asked once "how many divisions does the Pope have?" It is thus wonderfully ironic that a Pope should have helped bring about the demise of Stalin's brutal empire.
